The Malaysian education system
Higher education in Malaysia is regulated by the Ministry of Higher Education and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). All recognised universities follow the MQF — Malaysian Qualifications Framework — aligned with European and Australian standards.
Students typically choose between public universities (state-funded, highly competitive), private universities (faster intakes, broader programme choice) and foreign branch campuses (Monash, Nottingham, Curtin) that award their home-country degree.
Pre-university routes include Foundation programmes, A-Levels, Australian Matriculation, Canadian Pre-U and the International Baccalaureate, depending on your stream.

Working while you study
International students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week during semester breaks and long holidays in approved sectors — restaurants, hotels, petrol stations, mini-markets and select retail outlets. While this won't fully cover living expenses, it's great for pocket money and CV-building experience.

After graduation, students can transition onto a Professional Visit Pass or Employment Pass once they secure a qualifying job. Tech, finance, hospitality and engineering all actively recruit international graduates in Kuala Lumpur. Long-term residency is possible through the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme.
